Job Description Summary: The Senior Manager, Content Editor-in-Chief will work within the PayPal Global Creative Strategy & Production team (Corporate Affairs) to innovate the ways in which we engage in the digital era and build creative content campaigns that elevate PayPal’s brand. This role will be critical in shaping the ways in which PayPal engages with our key external audiences and stakeholders. In this position, the Content Editor-in-Chief will be responsible for distilling all insights, learnings, trends, and data points into a cohesive global content plan that can be executed by cross-functional internal teams and agency partners, resulting in increased brand reputation and trust. This position will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day execution of the content plans, both strategically and tactically, to ensure we bring our brand narratives and stories to life across owned, earned, and paid channels. Reporting to the Director, Global Creative Strategy & Content Planning, the candidate will work closely with global colleagues across Communications, Marketing, Corporate Affairs, Social Media, Legal, Compliance and agency partners to build best-in-class content programs that allow our brand to make meaningful connections with our audiences through storytelling.

This role will be critical in shaping the ways in which PayPal engages with our key external audiences and stakeholders.

Reporting to the Director, Global Creative Strategy & Content Planning, the candidate will work closely with global colleagues across Communications, Marketing, Corporate Affairs, Social Media, Legal, Compliance and agency partners to build best-in-class content programs that allow our brand to make meaningful connections with our audiences through storytelling.

What You’ll Do:

  • Responsible for setting the quarterly global content plan and gaining alignment across leadership, global comms teams and key stakeholders from Corp. Affairs and Marketing:
    • Partner with the insights & strategy lead to leverage trendspotting, content insights, key learnings from previous quarters and analytics to inform the overall content strategy
    • Partner with product and global comms teams to ensure major product moments and announcements are properly supported
    • Partner with corporate communications and social innovation teams to align on relevant external social impact moments and build a strategy for content creation and external storytelling aligned with PayPal’s mission, vision, and values
    • Partner with consumer, SMB and enterprise content marketing leads to socialize our approach and align plans across the company
    • Work with global comms leads to pull in and align market specific content calendars
  • Develop approach for launching global “hero” content series and partner to create stories that scale multiple regions and languages:
    • Set the strategy, define the stories and work with global comms teams to localize for key moments, themes, announcements
    • Regularly meet with the global comms leads to sync on global editorial calendars, share best practices, key learnings, and provide guidance and direction as needed
  • Oversee day-to-day execution of the PayPal Corporate Newsroom content plan at a strategic and tactical level across an integrated internal team and agency partners, who support content strategy, planning, creative, production and PayPal’s global owned channels:
    • Partner to ensure all campaign materials are created/shared to support content production and distribution (content toolkits, workback schedules, timelines, and project plans) and clearly communicate deliverables, daily/weekly deadlines and status updates to leadership and project team to ensure the work stays on track
    • Help review and approve all written content and toolkits
    • Help lead and inspire a team of creatives and producers to produce top quality creative assets, including video, photography, images, etc. – help review all creative briefs and sign-off before work kicks off
    • Work with the platform team to ensure each story comes to life on the PayPal Corporate Newsroom and we’re properly optimizing the channel
    • Partner with global comms leads to ensure the EMEA, APAC, LATAM and NA content strategies are aligned and look for opportunities to collaborate
  • Responsible for managing all content related operating cadences across our team, including newsletters and editorial meetings
  • Act as “the keeper of the story” – regularly story mine across the company, maintain a story bank and look for opportunities to bring proactive stories to life
  • Main point of contact with our Editorial & Newsroom agency of record, and provide daily direction/feedback to manage agency resources and budgets
  • Assist with content editing and publishing efforts on the PayPal Corporate Newsroom including communication with content owners, providing reviews/feedback and editorial calendar management as needed

Pre-Requisite Skills:
  • 10+ years of experience in a newsroom, agency, corporate (communications, marketing, advertising) and/or media environment with increasing responsibilities
  • Bachelor’s degree required and graduate degree in marketing or related field preferred
  • Experience in advertising, digital, PR and/or social media agency experience is a plus
  • Background in editorial planning and deep experience creating content for major brands
  • Experience running social media and/or digital media marketing campaigns and strong understanding of channel behavior across all platforms
  • Proven experience guiding teams in campaigns across many platforms and ability to inspire and lead through influence, with or without direct reporting lines
  • Ability to take an idea and build it into a cohesive and clear content plan that internal teams and agency partners can execute against
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of data and communicate key points clearly, succinctly, and quickly to change direction, stop or start campaigns as needed
  • Ability to achieve results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, often on short deadlines
  • Superb communication skills, including writing, verbal and editing
  • Amazing with PowerPoint and able to use it to sell in an idea or outline a clear plan
  • Strong project management skill set, very organized, great attention to detail
  • Problem solver and self-starter that is focused on delivering results
  • Sense of curiosity and eagerness to innovate and improve upon what’s already been done
