Permanent We are looking for a Director of Design to support our Platform Mission. Platform Mission is Spotify’s technology engine. We provide essential core technologies and services to our Consumer Units. Our mission is to enable Spotify to move with speed and at scale, while still maintaining safety.
This position will help us build an inspiring 21st-century developer experience, help us define how we build highly effective internal systems and platforms. The position requires a passion for foundational technologies such as Data streams, Machine Learning foundations, Security, and Client Services. The Director of Design for Platform Mission will lead a team of Managers and Senior ICs supporting ongoing platform improvements as well as develop future-forward visions and strategies.
This role reports into Design Platform within Platform Mission. Design Platform is the creative backbone of the world’s most innovative audio platform. Design Platform is a team of specialists who enable design delivery at scale. We are system thinkers, enablers, and challengers to remove low variant and repetitive tasks and help product teams to focus on high-value work. We listen and build; enabling teams through the creation of unrivaled tools, infrastructure, art direction, products, and systems that inspire, unblock challenges, and provide the space to deliver on exceptional user experiences.
What You’ll Do
  • You will lead a team of product designers and product design managers, which will include both hardworking practitioners and experienced leaders.
  • You are responsible for scaling the team and enabling a healthy organizational structure in collaboration with the Platform Mission Senior Management and the Product Leadership.
  • You will lead design, through best practices, attention to detail, and sometimes unconventional thinking, to ensure impact
  • You will collaborate closely with your product, insights, and tech counterparts to shape a data-informed vision for the user experience of our products and can translate this into an inspiring Design Strategy for your team.
  • You will identify and grow leaders within the design team, setting them up for success through mentorship and coaching
  • You will act as the subject matter expert on product design in the Platform space, innovating and scaling our tools and ecosystem from the ground up.

Who You Are
  • You have 7-10+ years of experience leading design teams through building large-scale platforms. This should include mentoring and leading managers
  • You’re comfortable working in spaces with some ambiguity, and defer to data-driven execution and testing
  • You are passionate about design and what it can do for the music, content, and technology industries
  • You’re a fantastic communicator. You have the communication skills to help you work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external partners alike. You thrive when developing great people and great products
  • You have a broad product design background and are well-versed in data-informed product design and development
  • You want to make an impact and take on big complex issues
